Installing Windows 8

Let's install Windows 8 on VirtualBox.

First open the VirtualBox and click on New.

You will see the following, click NEXT.

Type Windows 8 in the Name.
Click NEXT.

Now, time to create new Virtual Machine.
Adjust the amount of RAM you would like to give to the OS.
(1024 MB will be enough, atleast 768 MB must be given.
WARNING: Don't give RAM higher than half of the RAM present in your system, else the processes might become slow. Also, don't give less RAM, else the OS might not install.
Click NEXT.

You will see the following, you can create a new hard disk or use the existing hard disk that you have made earlier.
Click NEXT.

You will see the following, you can choose between VDI, VMDK, VHD, HDD.
I would recommend VDI.
Click NEXT.

You can now choose Virtual disk Storage details.
A dynamically allocated virtual disk file will only use space on your physical hard disk as it fills up, although it will not shrink again automatically when space on it is freed.
A fixed size virtual disk file may take longer to create on some systems but is often faster to use.
I prefer dynamically allocated, click NEXT.

Select the location where you like to create and also select the size of Virtual Disk(VD).
Click NEXT.

Now the virtual disk has been made in the selected location.
Click CREATE.

You will see following window.

Now click on Settings.


You will see settings box, now click on STORAGE and then in attributes click on CD like structure.
If you are using a CD/DVD check Live CD/DVD.

You will see the following.

Click on Choose virtual CD/DVD disk file...
Browse to the folder where the .iso(disk image) file of the OS is present. And the select the file.
If you are using a CD\DVD click on "Host Drive 'X:'"

Click OK.

Now it's all ready.
Click on START.

Now the setup of the Windows 8 will begin.
And next time you start virtual box, it will run the OS seamlessly.

Step Four: Install OS on VirtualBox

Now let's install the OS.

First open the VirtualBox and click on New.

You will see the following, click NEXT.

Give the required name, the OS type will change according to the Name given.

Click NEXT.

Now, time to create new Virtual Machine.

Step Three: Download required OS

You can download the required OS from their official website.
You can buy the original or use the pirated version.
For Windows OS you can download(buy) from here.
For Ubuntu download it from here depending on the machine, for 32-bit or 64-bit.
Search in Google for your required OS or download it from torrent.

You can also buy a CD/DVD from your nearby stores.

Step Two: Install Virtual Box

Step by Step procedure for WINDOWS users.
For others it is somewhat same.
(for dumb users)
First double click the downloaded package.
You will see following, click next.

You will see following, choose the location where you would like to install by clicking on BROWSE.

No need to change the way features will be installed.

Click NEXT.

You will see the following, check those what you want and click NEXT.

It will show the warning, click YES.

click INSTALL and the installation begins.

A dialogue box will appear click YES.

Click INSTALL, check the "always trust software from 'Oracle Corporation'. " if you want to. 

Checking the box installs everything without asking.

If you uncheck the box you have to click Install many times.

Click FINISH.

Now the Virtual Box has been installed.

To install the VirtualBox Extension Pack, double click the downloaded Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.16-78094.

You will see the following,

Click INSTALL,

Scroll down to bottom and you will be able to click on I Agree.

Then a dialogue box appears click on Yes.

The installation will start.

Now, the installation has been finished, click on OK.

First Step: Download virtual box

First of all you will need a software like virtualbox or vmware. I prefer virtual box.

VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware, targeted at server, desktop and embedded use.

You can download it here, select your OS and then download.
